Liner Notes:

Unorthodox.
Loooong Bridge, (And a mite strange)
The reason it's a bridge is that I couldn't get it to meter with the other stanzas :)
I don't know how well this would sing--Maybe more like a poem than a song
Anyway, comments--collabs

Paul says: Wyatt's lyrics intrigued me from the first reading. I was totally surprised that no on had collabed on this one at the end, so I thought why not? I thought it really called for an elegaic sound, which is what I tried for. Not a happy story with a happy ending, but those are not the only stories.

Lyrics:

The Last Wolf
(Cut Me Down)

V
Once we were legion
Then we were few
Just last year
We got down to two
My mate and I
Dug one last den
Deep in the hills
Far from men

V
Then this spring
She bore only three
Still they would
Not let us be
They came on horses
And in their trucks
And in the end
It was too much

B
They cut her down
When she went to water
They laughed and cheered
At the needless slaughter
We knew better
Than to take their sheep
But they weren't willing
To keep the peace

V
My pups now starve
She's not here to feed
I bring them meat
That they cannot eat
Tonight I'll howl
Above the town
My time is done
Let them cut me down

great! Maybe this is a sign of the times, we've had a century of songs about the emancipation of downtrodden human groups, is this the beginning of the next evolutionary phase of protest songs?

Really well written lyrics, simple and yet brutally effective.
I think the simple/direct folk song treatment is a great way to get the message across too. And has just the right emotional tone as well. It's similar music that i would expect on a song about a soldier dying far from home, that sort of thing.

Very vivid story, Wy. Good writing. Yeah, with the right music, I think it would sing just fine. It's great to have things that are different. Something may come along that needs something specific like this!

Good story. Should be very singable to the right music.

What an interesting perspective. And what an incredibly sad ending. I think it could definitely work to music. I think I'd like to hear country or bluegrass, nothing to somber, might be too much.

Wow, this is so powerful Wyatt. Sure is poetry, but it's no less a song for that, and a song that needs singing!

I don't find the bridge too long or strange at all, "they weren't willing to keep the peace" is a great line, btw.
